                       SHOPAGE

Funny I said that:

On 2/27/11  My AMX was at the  Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance show, special guest was Jay Leno.  During the day he was spotted from time to time looking at some cars.  The lady I was sitting next to asked if I was going to see Leno.  I said, jokingly "if Leno wants to see me I will be sitting right here".  Well, it is funny I said that because about an hour later up drives a golf cart, it stops at my car and out pops Jay Leno, his security people and a film crew.  They set up at my AMX, put a mike on me and Leno proceeds to do a car interview about the AMX.  This happend all of a sudden, no pre-warning so my wife was not there to take pictures so below are the only stills I have.

**The clip is now on Jay Leno's Garage and can be seen by clicking below, it is about half way in at 7:20 **

This picture I snapped when Leno got out of his golf cart and headed to my car

This is the only still I have of the two of us right after the interview was over

and the last one, after he was finished he was mobbed by the crowd behind my AMX

These stills were captured from the video, not that good due to being from a video but better then nothing..

Upon my return from the American Motors Owners International convention in July '09 I was surprised to find an invitation from the Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance show for the weekend of October 31-Nov 1.  But what was more of a surprise is that they wanted both of my cars!!  So a dilemma developed on how could I get both cars down.  A friend, David Campbell, rose to my aid and brought the AMX down while I hauled the Javelin.  The show is something I have never experienced before and it is a venue that any classic car fan should take in.  Both Chris and I had a wonderful time and the organization of all events was magnificent as well as the people who ran the show the entire weekend.

Knowing the type of competition such a venue would attract I was honored just to be invited but I am proud to announce that the AMX, in the American performance class and the Javelin, in the pony car class, were awarded the Hilton Head Concours Palmetto award.  At this show the cars were not only judged on fit and finish, but style, elegance, historical correctness, etc.  I have never had judges test all parts of the car, engine, lights, just about everything on the car. They also interviewed the owners as to the history of the car, restoration, original items, etc.  It was an experience I will never forget. This was a day the AMC cars had a leg up on the Mustangs, Camaros and such that they competed with.

The wife's 1960 Nash Metropolitan made her debut at the 2011 SE Regional AMC show in Atlanta on October 8th, 2011.  Much to her owners surprise and delight she was awarded "Best in Show"

Lights.............Action..................AMX!!!

On August 24, 2009 my AMX traveled up to Nashville, TN to the RTM studio to do a segment for Powerblock's Muscle Car TV show that is aired on the SPIKE channel on Saturday's and Sunday's.  The filming started at 9:00am and lasted until 6pm, all to get three (3) minutes---YES!! 3 minutes of footage to be used on their "flashback" episode.  This is where they take a muscle car from yesteryear and show what it was, when it was and what it could do.  The show aired on April 17th and 18th of 2010.

One week after the  Hilton Head Show I had to drive down to St. Simons Island, GA to pick up the AMX.  It had been kept there by a friend after the show.  While I was down that far I decided to take the AMX to Ocala, FL to the Southeast Regional AMO show being held at the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum on November 7th.  The show was hosted by First Coast AMC which did a great job and the show was also in conjunction with the Florida Mopar Association show.  The AMX came away with both a Gold award and the First Coast AMC Choice award (their version of Best in Show). Sorry, no pictures as I forgot my camera.

June 2010 saw the AMX travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take it's place on the showfield of the Ault Park Concours d'Elegance.  This venue was for VERY stock cars so I was surprised my car was invited.  I had to swap the wheels from the Javelin onto the AMX for this show.  Those wheels, chrome magnum 500's would have been correct for a 1968 AMX.  The cars in my class were perfect, I was surprised to be on the same show field with them but more surprised when my car received an "Award of Distinction".

On October 3, 2010 my AMX took it's place on the infield at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY for the Louisville Concours d'Elegance.  Very nice venue, great cars and great people, Chris and I had a wonderful experience.  I have now purchased a correct set of chrome magnum 500 wheels and redline bias ply E-70 14 tires as many of these venues are looking for pure stock cars and won't even extend an invitation to the car if modified.  These will be for the "special" shows but the Cragars and 15" tires will be back on the car soon, it looks too good not to keep them on and, after all the car is not a trailer queen, she needs to be driven.

February 27, 2011 found Chris and I down in warm Boca Raton Florida for the Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance, it was a fantastic show and a great venue.  The most cars I have seen at any concours event we have attended, there were 15 cars in my class alone.  This show set a national record for car shows raising 3 million dollars for their charity.  I did get a very special treat at this show.  Jay Leno was the special guest and he picked my car out of all the other perfect muscle cars to do a film piece on for his web site "Jay Leno's garage.  See the link above near the top of this page to see the video.  For a photobucket link to pictures from the show click here:
